Wayward Wings

A phantom flutter in the night
Awakes me from my sleep
The sound so soft it's often missed
When slumbering so deep
A whispered hush of fragile wings
On slender, moonlit backs
And noiseless toes placed lightly
Leaving stardust in their tracks
Tiny hands that tap the glass
Which the curtain shadow hides
Two souls who've wandered just too far
With fireflies in their eyes
And in the golden lamplight
Moth and June bug are all I see
But as I slip back into sleep
I know who they'll soon be
