Bird Tree
The mockingbird waits
Until he sees the sun
Then he squawks and he squabbles
So that everyone
Can hear the man shouting
As loud as can be
"Wake up, sleepy heads!"
And hush says the tree
The baby jay's crying
Because he's got the flu
But mother blue jay
She knows just what to do
She gives him some honey
To help with his sneeze
"Eat your medicine, darling."
And hush says the tree
Constable Cardinal
Alert on his limb
Each bird follows the rules
For they are quite scared of him
He screams when two turtle doves
Kiss mischievously
"You're under arrest!"
And hush says the tree
Ms. Robin red breast
Pecks hard at the ground
She's begging for tid-bits
Making quite a loud sound
"Come out little worms
And be breakfast for me!"
Then she pecks the ground harder
And hush says the tree
The crows in sleek black
Walk so proudly, like they
Are above all the others
Though, they've not much to say
For when they open their beaks
Their talk is useless, you see
"Yeah!" is all they can say
And hush says the tree
The finches, so bouncy
Talk within their crowds
They're so tiny, however
That they don't get very loud
They are never alone
Always in groups of three
"Stick with me, my best friends."
And hush says the tree
Up above all this squawking
High Hawk circles slow
And if one gets too careless
Those sharp talons he'll know
He whispers so softly
Stalking on the soft breeze
"I'm here and I'm waiting."
And hush says the tree
Soon the sun starts to fade
In the darkening blue
And all the bird conversations
Start to fade away, too
And old owl sees me leaving
And hoots, "Good night," to me
Then the only sound left
Is the hush of the tree
Until he sees the sun
Then he squawks and he squabbles
So that everyone
Can hear the man shouting
As loud as can be
"Wake up, sleepy heads!"
And hush says the tree
The baby jay's crying

Lovely.
