The Something More of Midas Magee
Midas Magee
One day grew tired
Of all the want
He had acquired
It had grown grey
And rotten, too
Midas declared
It would not do
And so he knocked
On every door
To see if there
Was something more
But every cabinet
Every drawer
Was full of want
And nothing more
He met with kings
And well-dressed queens
He met the ones
With fewer things
He asked each one
Of what they knew
But they just sighed
For they searched, too
He searched the world
But in his hunt
The only thing
He found was want
And when he thought
His search a loss
A final hope
He came across
A country house
'Neath sunny skies
And there a girl
With cheerful eyes
She took him in
She smiled and cared
And everything
She had she shared
She gave him clothes
And fresh baked bread
And somewhere safe
To lay his head
And Midas thanked
His God above
His something more
He'd found, was love.
