Ten Pounds

Every time I talk to you
It's ten more pounds to hold
From all the feelings you've unleashed
And the stories that you've told
Clumsy, balanced tid-bits
Dangled sweetly in the air
That sink their roots in ruthlessly
When I am unaware
Ten pounds of one-sided talk
Ten more pounds of lies
And an extra weight of secrets
I must keep from others' eyes
Just when I think my wings are free
You slyly nag my ear
With hints dropped squarely in my path
So I can't help but hear
