Family Reunion

A learned man
Of wisdom, too
Whose tired ears
All else excuse

A quiet soul
His gentle grin
Is all that shows
What lies within

A faded foil
For husband still
A social bird
Of weathered frill

Though years are hers
She hides them well
Her sunny smile
A joyful spell

A careful youth
Who knows her place
And let's the others
Fill the space

Old and frail
But head held high
Authority
Herself implies

A listener strong
And sharp of eye
Corrects the ones
Who slip white lies

A girl at heart
With hair that grays
Who's learned from life
To never stray

A dainty spirit
Touched by time
Behind the smile
The sharpest mind

The youngest smile
A true man's man
His mind forgets
His wrinkled hands

The children who
Feign unconcern
Still realize
They've much to learn

The host reclines
Her par is done
Content to see
Her guests have fun

I sit smiling
Taking in
The honor of
Being human
