Horizon

Just on the horizon
Is the person I will be
A future so much wider
That I would dare conceive
But, between me and that future
There are choices I must make
Stairs to climb, knowledge to gain
And giant steps to take
Will I be the expected one
And do what I am told
Will I be the inventive one
And push beyond the old
Or will I be another name
To disappear unknown
Will I live for others' good
Or will I die alone
Every breath that I will take
And everything I learn
Leads me to a time when I
Will proudly take my turn
My steps are getting faster
As I run into the dawn
The horizon's so much closer
And the clock is racing on
